General English Language Teachers (GEL)

Job Description
  • Teach a variety of credit and noncredit English language classes.
  • Maximum teaching 20 hours per week and 4 office hours.
  • 2 hours of professional development every other week.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, N.Z, South Africa, U.K, or the USA
  • Master’s degree and 2 years of verifiable English teaching experience (accrued after time spent pursuing degrees) is preferred
  • PhD applicants qualify with no experience
  • Documents verifying English teaching experience (Work certificate or scan of official signed letter from employer with explicit dates)*
  • English/Korean bilingual teachers are encouraged to apply
  • Degrees in Education, English, and Linguistics are preferred

*Experience can come from prior to postgraduate enrollment and after graduation. If the duration of your postgraduate program was only one year, an additional year of verifiable experience is required. Experience must be university or corporate level, no private academies. Licensed primary and secondary level teaching is acceptable. Professional experience, if relevant to Woosong departments, may also be accepted.

Starting Salary

2,700,000 – 3,500,000 Won per month

    • Relocation allowance of W40,000 per diem for up to seven days (payable with first pay check)
    • Air fare allowance (an additional W300,000 with your first pay check and W700,000 upon contract completion) for first year teachers
    • One month’s additional salary is paid as a bonus upon the completion of a second year’s contract and every year contract thereafter
    • Housing: Rent-free partially furnished apartment close to the campus or a housing stipend of 400,000 won per month for single teachers(based on availability), 500,000 for those with families.
    • Vacation – 6 weeks
    • Medical / Dental: National Health Insurance plan approximately 3.5% of your monthly salary
    • Private Pension Fund approximately 8% of your monthly salary
    • Free Korean language classes
