General English Language Teachers (GEL)

Woosong Teacher ApplicationWoosong usually hires twice a year, for the Spring and Autumn semesters, though occasionally we hire in the Winter and Summer.  If you meet the following criteria and are interested in teaching English here at Woosong in South Korea, please send a copy of your resume, cover letter, passport photo and information page, and scans of your degree diplomas to hiring@woosong.org.  Please submit all documents as PDF files.  Each document should be in a separate file:  one of the resume, one for the passport scan, one of each degree.  As the subject of your email, please write your name, highest degree, and years of teaching experience.

Job Description
  • Teach a variety of credit and noncredit English language classes.
  • Maximum teaching 20 hours per week and 4 office hours.
  • 2 hours of professional development every other week.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, N.Z, South Africa, U.K, or the USA.
  • Master’s degree and 2 years of verifiable English teaching experience at the college or university level, though we will also consider K-12 teaching experience in your country of citizenship if it required a teaching license from the government.
  • PhD applicants qualify with no experience
  • Documents verifying English teaching experience (Work certificate or scan of official signed letter from employer with explicit dates)*
  • English/Korean bilingual teachers are encouraged to apply
  • Degrees in Education, English, and Linguistics are preferred

*Experience can come from prior to postgraduate enrollment and after graduation. If the duration of your postgraduate program was only one year, an additional year of verifiable experience is required. Experience must be university or corporate level, no private academies. Licensed primary and secondary level teaching is acceptable. Professional experience, if relevant to Woosong departments, may also be accepted.

Starting Salary

2,700,000 – 3,500,000 Won per month

Benefits
    • First-year signing bonus (an additional W300,000 with your first pay check and W700,000 upon contract completion) for first year teachers
    • One month’s additional salary is paid as a bonus upon the completion of a second year’s contract and every year contract thereafter
    • Housing: Rent-free partially-furnished apartment close to campus (based on availability) or a housing stipend of 400,000 won per month for single teachers, 500,000 won for those with families.  Woosong does not have married or couple housing.
    • Vacation – 6 weeks
